Problem
Throughout my time at better one ongoing project has been to illustrate our cognitive behavioral therapy content.
While it wasn’t what I was initially hired for, my background in art and design has certainly come in handy here!
Goal
Using our established design system and previous illustrations as our starting-point, I was tasked with illustrating many of the complex behavioral therapeutic ideas as written by our Medical Content Director, and in partnership with our Partnered with our clinical content lead and Head of Behavioral Medicine.
Here are a few of my favorites.
Character designs
Our original character set was chosen for its ease of repeatability, and had a certain simplistic effect to it. In order to illustrate a broader range of emotions and actions by these characters, I had to find the correct balance of detail, leading to the slightly more enhanced characters you see here.
A sampling of a few of my personal favorites.
Titles of therapeutic idea from left to right:
Top row: Ideas about our ability to change, Ideas about healing, Ideas about loyalty, Ideas about stress, Ideas about responding to stress, Ideas about our evolving selves
Middle row: Exercise low intensity, Exercise moderate intensity, Exercise high intensity
Bottom row: Allowing sadness, Experimenting with comfort, Exploring volunteer opportunities, Create a healthy new tradition, Bring a plant based dish to share, Exploring craving.
This was a repeated effort. These illustrations had a long reach and were high visibility. Many of these were showcased in investor presentations, documentation to the FDA, SEC, Patent office and other regulatory bodies.
Ultimately this resulted in over 250 individual illustrations, and more in some mold-breaking features such as Treatment Summary.
A small fraction of the 250+ illustrations created for Better Therapeutics treatment.
